This has been the strangest school year
I've ever experienced! I've been closed for a week due to snow storms. I've
been closed for over a week thanks to hurricanes. I've had a lockdown due to a
skunk on our campus.(Still not as wild as Mrs. Starr's campus being locked down
for a mountain lion!!)
When we were initially told schools
were closed for a week and a half, we were surprised. However, we knew we would
be okay and get to see each other in a couple weeks. Then the county announced
we'd be closed through the end of Spring Break. However, April 10 wasn't too
far away, so we would make it work.
Then, the Governor announced that
schools would be closed for the rest of the year, and most of us cried -
teachers and students. This is not what we expected. This is not what we
wanted. We miss our students and miss getting and giving hugs from students past
and present. We miss seeing our colleagues in the hallways. We miss the stories
our students share with us each day.
However, I woke up on Tuesday morning
with a paradigm shift. Before the latest announcement, we had been working on
creating a temporary virtual learning situation to get us through the closure.
Now, it is going to be for the rest of the year. That means our solution needs
to be even bigger and better than we originally envisioned in order to keep our
community strong. This 5th grade team recognizes that, while the buildings are
closed, "school" is not over for the year! Stay tuned for what is
coming!
