Social Distancing: Virtual Meetings Edition

This is our new way of having 5th grade Team Meetings:

So what have you been doing with all of this time outside of school? My family has been trying to find ways to keep busy, be positive, and spend time with each other.

This idea of social distancing has been challenging - we are social people who love to spend time with friends and family. Not being able to physically visit with our family is hard, but to keep Grandparents safe, we haven't visited them for a long time, which is not normal for us! I know my girls miss visiting with their Granny and Grandpa, who live only 15 minutes away from our house! This routine change is not necessarily to keep us safe - it's to help keep others safe and healthy. How have you changed your routines, besides no more coming to school?

This is how we keep track of all of my family's activities each week. Notice this is from the first week of Social Distancing and everything the first weekend that ended up cancelled.

We were very disappointed about the cancelled Odyssey of the Mind Tournament. My daughter's team worked SO hard from November until now building, practicing, and rehearsing. On Friday, March 13, her team still got together outside behind Mill Run and performed their skit so we could record it, though the wind kept blowing their props away…

But in the end, we just need to remember this is bigger than just us. Yes, this is affecting all of us, but we're changing our behaviors to do our best to help others - our medical community who is doing their best to help people stay safe and to feel better; our Grandparents, who might get sicker than we would if they caught this virus; and our friends, neighbors, and community members, who may have other conditions that might make them sicker than we might get. I'm also doing my part and not hoarding all the toilet paper! I feel better knowing that I'm doing my part to make sure others stay safe.
