In December, I bought my daughters a
membership to a cooking club, where they'll get 6 months of recipes and cooking
tools. The box also comes with activities, bonus recipes, music suggestions,
and other fun things. With our normal busy schedules, we didn't get to try most
of the recipes when the boxes came each month. However, with our new-found time
(and my continued need to figure out how to incorporate MATH into our everyday
lives), we pulled out those recipes and got started on our grocery list!
Since some of the grocery stores look like this,
we had to look hard for some of our ingredients.
Milk, eggs, yeast, and flour were gone pretty quickly! Luckily, I found 1
3-pack of yeast and 1 extra bag of flour.

I Found Flour! VICTORY!! |
The baking commenced. Our first week at
home looked like this:
First, we started on a fruit crumble.
YUM! Then we made it again with different fruit. We liked it THAT much!! We
learned that using frozen fruit is perfect for this since it won't go bad. My
daughter pointed out it's *kinda* like a Nutrigrain bar, so she asked to eat it
for breakfast. So you know what? We DID!! 😏
After that, we tried making cinnamon
roll twists. Those were awesome and messy!
Then, we moved to banana chocolate chip muffins. The bananas were past the point of eating or putting in a smoothie, which is when they make the BEST muffins!
At that point, Mr. Arnwine mentioned
that maybe we should take a little break and finish eating what we had already
made, so we paused for a day or so, watched some people baking on TV, and then
made Rice Krispie treats. Haha! E took photos of the Rice Krispie Treat process
so she could make an instructional step-by-step movie of it. Maybe we'll share
that later.
What have you been making at home??
Have you been using your measuring cups? Time and temperature on the stove or
oven? There is SO MUCH MATH in cooking at baking. I'm loving it! Tell me what
you've been making!
